the story

I had been watching the forest edge, where the undergrowth thinned into open ground covered in small lavender flowers. The light was already low and warm, sliding in almost horizontally beneath the canopy. Then the tiger simply stepped out of the green wall of leaves, head lowered, moving at a steady walk. The sun caught the top of its back and the white of its underside while the vegetation behind it stayed in deep shadow. I kept my distance and stayed wide. Framed small in all that flowering ground, the animal looked exactly as it should: part of the place rather than separate from it.

the encounter

A single tiger emerged from the shaded forest margin and walked into the open, crossing a shallow spread of pale lavender wildflowers. Late, low sunlight lit its flank and forelegs while the tangled greenery behind remained dark, giving the frame its natural separation. I photographed from a distance, holding the animal small against the flowering foreground and the wall of vegetation. It looked briefly in my direction as it moved through, then continued along the edge.
